To Catch Fish with SABIKI: A Comprehensive Guide
Utilize a 6 to 9-foot light action rod with a spinning reel to target fish such as mackerel, herring, smelt, and Spanish mackerel. Tie the SABIKI rig to your line and attach a chum cage to the end. The best chum is frozen krill, but when unavailable, minced squid or pet food can be used. Ensure to use ample chum at all times.
Quickly lower the rig into the water, reaching the depth of the fish school. Slowly lift the rod tip, allowing the chum to scatter downward, then rapidly lower the rig into the now dispersed chum and the mouths of the frenzied fish below. Repeat this motion several times. If no bites occur, reel in the line, refill the chum cage, and try again.
Once a fish is hooked, wind the line slowly to prevent tearing the hook from the fish's mouth and to retrieve more fish. This slow reeling technique is the key to successful SABIKI fishing.
